  • Sleeping setups

    A canvas swag rolls out in a couple of minutes and carries its own 70mm foam mattress, which is why it suits one or two people moving campsites. A tent earns its keep with a family along, gear to keep dry, or a week in the one spot. We carry swags from 900 through to 1600, tents from two-person hikers up to six-person family domes, and sleeping bags rated from light hiker bags down to -10.

  • Camp kitchen

    Cast iron camp ovens and cookware from 4.5 quart up to the Jumbo 15, with lid lifters, gloves and storage bags to match. Stainless billies and kettles, butane and propane stoves, mess kits, enamel and bamboo plates and folding cutlery sets. Whether you cook over coals or on gas, the pieces are here rather than spread across three shops.

  • Chairs, tables and lighting

    camp chairs and tables, including the Oztent Lock On range that clips straight onto the arm of a chair. Lanterns and Led Lenser head torches for after dark, and 12 volt options for anyone running off the vehicle. These are the pieces that decide whether a site is somewhere you sit around or somewhere you put up with.

What size swag do I need?

The number is the swag's width in millimetres. A 900 is a roomy single, an 1100 gives room to roll over, and a 1400 is sized for a double. We stock the 23Zero Dual in 900, 1100 and 1400, plus the Duke 1600, which measures 2350mm long by 1600mm wide and takes adults and kids.

Does a swag come with a mattress, or do I need a mat as well?

A swag has its mattress built in. The 23Zero Dual range carries a 70mm high density foam mattress inside the swag, so it is ready to sleep on as it rolls out. A tent is the setup that needs bedding underneath it, which is where a self inflating mat, an airbed or a fold-out stretcher comes in.

What temperature sleeping bag do I need for a Riverina winter?

Look at the comfort rating, not the extreme rating. The Hi-Country Lite Hiker is rated to -5 degrees and handles most frosty nights inland. The TAS Patrol MK V is built to a military specification and rated -5 to -10 for genuinely cold country. A Thermolite Reactor liner adds up to 8 degrees to a bag you already own.

Canvas or polyester, which should I go for?

Canvas breathes, handles heat and lasts decades, and it is heavier. The 23Zero swags use a 400gsm proofed poly cotton canvas. Polyester is lighter and packs smaller, and the number to check is the waterhead rating: the Coleman 3P Swagger is 150D polyester with a 1500mm waterhead. Canvas for a base camp, polyester for moving and carrying.

How many people does a family tent actually sleep?

Rated capacity assumes shoulder to shoulder with no gear inside. As a rule drop the rating by one or two for real comfort, so a six-person tent suits a family of four with room for bags. What do I need to start cooking with a camp oven?

A camp oven, a lid lifter and a pair of gloves is the working minimum. Sizes run 4.5 quart for a couple, 9 to 12 quart for a family, and the Jumbo 15 for a group. A canvas storage bag keeps the cast iron and the seasoning intact in the vehicle, and the Campfire Combo doubles as a pan through its lid.
